The Heart and Hands Ministries of Salado had its beginnings in the early 1990’s as a food pantry in a small closet at the First Baptist Church. As the community grew so did the needs, making it necessary to relocate the pantry to a larger more centralized facility. In the fall of 2017 we were blessed to open the pantry at 213 Mill Creek Dr in the Brookshire Plaza.

Our goal is to help alleviate hunger by providing nutritious food, personal care items, and social service information to those who need them. Our hope is to sustain, strengthen, and educate individuals/families that live in our community and surrounding areas. We also strive to give people opportunities for personal and spiritual growth by sharing the love of Jesus through our service.

We want each person who comes to feel welcomed, invited in, and seen as a valuable person. We hope to encourage people through conversations while they wait and while they select their groceries. Many people who come through are discouraged and depressed as their life circumstances are difficult, but we hope to share a smile of hope with them as well as meeting a basic need.

Each household is able to receive food once a month. You may not pick up food for another person without permission from Heart and Hands Ministries.

In order to receive food, you must provide a photo ID and your current address (i.e. valid drivers license, rent, utility bill, etc). Each household must have different addresses.

We also distribute new, gently used clothes to all ages, families are allowed to shop and select a few items for each household member.

Our Food Pantry empowers and respects people by giving them a choice of what food they would like to take home. Families are able to select what food items they need based on their family size and dietary restrictions (low sodium, food allergies, and diabetes). Being a "client choice" pantry this eliminates wasted food and resources.

As a volunteer, you would join a group of people who are willing to share the love of Jesus with those in need. It is our hope and prayer that in helping meet a physical need we can show them to the One who meets all our needs, Jesus Christ.
